Highland Daytona Racing (HDR) originally worked with suspension design engineer / guru Terry Satchell to bring his specialized rear differential linking system known as the Satchell link suspension system to Highland Daytona Racing Cobra Replica cars exclusively. The Satchell suspension is a critical part of the extreme performance handling characteristics for which all Highland Daytona Racing Cobras are known.

Now, Highland Daytona Racing has partnered with Terry Satchell again in order to mate Satchell's triangulated link system with Highland Daytona Racing's new performance chassis bridge system, and for the first time in automotive history bring such a race bred and complete package to the market for enthusiasts. HDR offers for sale a complete bolt-in HDR-Satchell link suspension system for the following cars:

  • 1970-81 Chevy Camaro
  • 1970-81 Pontiac Firebird / Trans Am
  • 1964-70 Ford Mustang (contact for availability)

Highland Daytona Racing will also custom install this system into virtually any vehicle at our facility. All inquiries welcome.

Satchell Link Suspension - 1 side view The NEW Satchell Link Suspension System
This system is NOT just another 4-link or stop gap replacement for sub-par OEM designs. This Satchell suspension link system boasts incredible geometry which will turn your F-body into a true corner-carving, Porsche-eating, ground-pounder. The system works equally well for straight line drag racing and hooks up the rear end incredibly well. This system has historically been found in both Walker Evans off-road race trucks for several years, as well as Steve Saleen's Trans Am series cars.

The complete package will consist of:

  • The main sub-frame bridge X-brace extension which houses the attachment points for the lower links.
  • A set of bolt on brackets for the upper links which also use existing mount holes.
  • Double adjustable coil-over shocks which are mounted via the integral third member brace, along with an upper frame cross brace which attaches the top of the coil-overs.
  • Teflon lined hardened steel Heim joints and all required installation hardware.
  • Options: There is also an exhaust package kit available which offers custom bent exhaust center pipes with cross-over, two 2-chamber FlowMaster mufflers and two turn outs. All designed to bolt in with the link system.

Satchell Link Suspension - rear strut The entire system has been designed to be a bolt-on installation with minor points to be drilled. HDR does recommend a few minor welds for the permanent or long term installations, and definitely for race applications. The idea is that the enthusiast can install the system at home, then drive the car to a local shop to finalize some minor welds and possibly some exhaust work.

Also soon to be available will be a complete bolt in front half sub-frame/suspension and steering system which will have all new, far greater suspension geometry then currently available anywhere else. This geometry will of course be re-designed by both Mr. Satchell and the engineers at Highland Daytona Racing. This NEW sub-frame will of course be made to attach directly to the center Bridge component of our current chassis upgrade offering. Look for this in 2007.

About Terry Satchell
Terry Satchell was the lead suspension design engineer engineer for GM / Pontiac in the 1970s - 80's. Satchell designed the suspension system for the highly popular Pontiac Firebird and Chevy Camaro. Satchell went on to create the Satchell suspension specifically for the Newman/Sharp Racing teams' GT cars. Satchell further enhanced his reputation as the foremost suspension expert working with Indy and NASCAR race teams up to the present day.
