Profile of Highland Daytona Racing
Very simply, Highland Daytona Racing is the premier manufacturer of Cobra replica cars. Highland Daytona Racing's History
Highland Daytona Racing began in 1998 to bring a different approach to replica car production with the hand built, high end Cobra replica Daytona Coupe. Highland Daytona Racing later added the 427 FIA Roadster, and dedicated spec racer models, along with other models of custom hot rods.
Establishing the company was Rick Ellis who hailed from both a race car fabrication history and aviation background, with degrees in structural airframe design and advanced aerodynamics. Rick has also worked as a commercial airline pilot.
Rick left the aviation industry by choice to pursue his dream of designing, fabricating, and marketing the highest end, highest performance, commercially sold replica Cobra. Historically, the replica kit market had been dominated by lower-end to middle-of-the-road kit car-type products. With this in mind, Rick's first question was: would this market support a new high-end and far more expensive, fully completed, turnkey replica car?
Rick decided early on to handle this adventure like an experiment. Planning to keep his company's initial overhead extremely low, Rick and family had new shops constructed on their own 20-acre property in Shepherd, Montana.
Word-of-mouth news of the Highland Daytona Racing Cobra Daytona Coupe with its extensively up-engineered GT-type chassis spread quickly, first throughout the replica car industry, then in the hot rod industry and in many racing circles. All initial Highland Daytona Racing cars sales were 100% word-of-mouth marketing for the company's first four years, selling approximately four to six cars annually. High-end turnkey replica cars were well received and this was the market information for which Highland Daytona Racing was looking. Plans for further expansion were immediately set in place.
In August of 2004, Highland Daytona Racing moved their facility out of Montana and into Powell, Wyoming. Seeking further expansion, the far better corporate atmosphere of Wyoming was their best choice. After two short years an unexpected offer came along for Highland Daytona Racing, and the company was moved east to Allentown, PA in 2006. The move would afford the new corporation far greater access to prospective clientele, shows and racing activity.
Construction is currently underway for the new totally custom 30,000 square foot production/custom shop facility in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania. This new facility will be a totally state-of-the-art custom production facility boasting a complete on-site CNC machine shop, fiberglass and composites body manufacturing, state-of-the-art paint and upholstery, in-house CAD design capabilities along with all other production process's under one roof for speed of production and quality control.
